FAQ for planning a campervan hire road trip in WA

What is the best way to get to Western Australia from the Northern Territory in a campervan?

Want to experience the magic of Uluru, Darwin, the Bungle Bungles, and Ningaloo Reef in one trip? Well, as long as you have the time, this is absolutely possible. We recommend starting your trip by picking up your campervan hire in Alice Springs in central Australia, driving to the top of the Northern Territory (past beauties like Litchfield National Park), and across from there past the Kimberlies toward Broome. Then, head south along the coast to return your camper at our Perth branch and fly home from here.

What is the best way to get to Western Australia from Queensland in a campervan?

Another popular route for Australia-wide campervan road trips is from Queensland to Western Australia on the Outback Way. After picking up your campervan at either of our Brisbane or Cairns campervan hire locations, you can venture up through the Gold Coast, up to the Great Barrier Reef, across the Outback of Queensland, across the top of the Northern Territory and into the north of Western Australia. Popular destinations for campervan travellers on this road trip route also include Airlie Beach and Byron Bay, which are known for their stunning coastal scenery and outdoor activities.

What is the best way to get to Western Australia from New South Wales?

Are you dreaming of a campervan hire road trip from the East Coast to the West Coast of Australia? Soaking in the ambience of Byron Bay, driving along the iconic Sea Cliff Bridge near Sydney, past the snow-capped mountains of snowy mountains in New South Wales, venturing past Booderee National Park, through Melbourne, past Kangaroo Island, Adelaide's world-class wineries and more?

Well, you may want to consider picking up your campervan in New South Wales at our Sydney branch. While this road trip is a beast, to say the least, it is entirely possible with a little planning! For this trip, we recommend heading along the south coast. This way, you also have the chance to drive on the Great Ocean Road to see iconic Australian attractions like the Twelve Apostles and the Nullarbor Plain.

Weather & Seasons in the Northern Territory

To get the most out of your time in the Northern Territory, we could recommend visiting during the dry season, which is between May and October.

It's worth noting that due to the Northern Territory's wet season (monsoonal rains and tropical storms) the Apollo Darwin and Alice Springs branches have a seasonal closure each year between late December and the end of March. The Darwin and Alice Springs branches then re-open at the start of the dry season on the 1st of April each year.

The Northern Territory has two distinct climates - the tropical Top End (Darwin) and the semi-arid Red Centre (Alice Springs).  The Northern Territory's capital, Darwin, has an average temperature of 32 degrees Celsius year round, but weather is more mild during the dry season. It's important to remember that no matter when you visit the Northern Territory, we would recommend that you stay hydrated, be sun smart and dress for the conditions.
