Known as the beating heart of Australia, Alice Springs is located between the East and West MacDonnell Ranges and is a great place to start your road trip in central Australia and the Northern Territory. "Alice" is home to breathtaking national parks and mountain ranges, rich Aboriginal culture, and one of Australia’s most famous landmarks – Uluru.  Hire a campervan or self-contained motorhome in Alice Springs from Apollo's branch, which is just 2 kilometres from the City and 15 kilometres from the Airport by uber or taxi. Apollo also offers 4wd hire from Alice Springs to help you explore more beautiful desert landscapes on your drive holiday.

What to do in Alice Springs and the Northern Territory

Your road trip through the red centre should include  a visit to Kings Canyon, The Simpson Desert, and the iconic Larapinta Trail. The Larapinta Trail has been voted as one of the top 20 trekking experiences in the world! Take in a breathtaking sunrise or sunset over Uluru and have dinner while stargazing under the Milky Way.

In town you can visit the Araluen Cultural precinct to wander through museums and galleries for a unique insight into Aboriginal art, culture and heritage. Alice Springs has more art galleries than any other town or city in Australia!

Bird watchers will enjoy spotting everything from emus to budgerigars, with more than 180 species of birds residing in the habitat surrounding Alice Springs - see what you can find from this Alice Springs bird checklist.

For something different, sample some crocodile or  kangaroo at one of the restaurants or cafes, or for something more tame, enjoy native fruits and berries. There are plenty of restaurants and shops in town to choose from.

However you choose to explore Australia’s red centre the friendly team at our Apollo Alice Springs branch look forward to getting you on the road.
