How is Apollo responding to the changing Novel Coronavirus / COVID-19 situation?

We understand the uncertainty regarding COVID-19 is unsettling and may affect your current or future travel plans. In this challenging time for the global community and the tourism industry, the health and wellbeing of Apollo guests and our team is our highest priority. We would like to reassure everyone that our existing policies and procedures are in line with the guidance provided by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and other government agencies.

Apollo is constantly monitoring travel restrictions and other advice which may impact our guests.

We are providing alternate travel options for our guests where possible and still taking bookings for those able to travel.

Keeping up to date

  • The Australian government is enforcing restrictions regarding visitors coming into the country and travel across state borders. We recommend that guests check travel advice from the Australian Government  regarding entering Australia or for guests travelling overseas, check the Australian Smart Traveller website before embarking on any journey.
  • The New Zealand government has placed restrictions regarding visitors coming into and people within New Zealand and is enforcing COVID-19 Alert Level 4  from 11.59pm 25 March 2020. All persons will then be required to self-isolate for a minimum of four weeks.  We recommend that guests check travel advice from the New Zealand government regarding travel in New Zealand, or for guests travelling overseas, check the Safe Travel website before embarking on any journey.

Are Apollo branches in Australia and New Zealand open?

At this stage all our branches in Australia and New Zealand are operational - we are assessing this daily and will make changes in accordance with government regulations.  If a branch you are picking up from or dropping off to is closed, we will be in contact with you directly to discuss your options.

Can I still hire a camper in New Zealand?

In New Zealand, campgrounds are considered essential services and are permitted to stay open during Alert Level 4.  However, shared facilities must not be used.

Self-contained vehicles can be used as accommodation by persons that are self-isolating.  Self-contained vehicles have a toilet, water and waste facilities and will display a sticker confirming they meet the Self-Containment Standard NZS 5465:2001.

Those using self-contained vehicles to self-isolate are strongly encouraged to stay at commercial camping sites, if available.  They must remain at the same site for four weeks or until the Alert Level is reduced.   Note that during Alert Level 4, Department of Conservation campsites will be closed, along with many local council-owned freedom camping spots.

Vehicles that are not self-contained must not be used for self-isolation.   Those currently living in non self-contained vehicles must find alternative accommodation while New Zealand is at Alert Level 4.

Can I change my existing booking?

If you are due to travel to/from a Country which has imposed a short-term travel ban and where you cannot travel to your original Apollo destination we offer the following options:

  1. You may rebook to a future date up to 30 June 2021.  The value of your current booking will be credited for use on the new trip, subject to availability. If you do not yet know your new travel date at this time, we will hold this credit against your current booking, for when you are able to advise new dates in the coming weeks.
  2. You may rebook in a different Apollo destination (Canada, USA, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Uk & Ireland) for travel up until June 30 2021.  The value of your current booking will be carried to a new booking (subject to availability and currency conversions)
  3. If you wish to cancel without rebooking, our standard cancellation fees apply. Remember we are happy to hold this amount for you as a credit towards future travel as above.
  4. Change of location - If you are already on the road and want to change the drop-off location, we will waive the change of location fee. However, there is no refund for unused days due to late or early return.

I am thinking of cancelling my upcoming reservation because of COVID-19

We have a number of options as outlined.  If you are thinking about cancelling you should know that normal cancellation fees apply as per our terms and conditions.  An option if you do not wish to lose the cancellation fee, is to amend your travel dates for a future date - your cancellation fee will be held as credit towards your future booking.

What if I am on hire and want to return early?

You are welcome to return your vehicle earlier if you wish. There is no refund for unused days.

What if I am on hire and I can’t return to my booked location due to borders being closed?

You may return to any of our Apollo locations- we will be waiving the change of location fee if you are forced to amend your pick up/drop off locations due to travel bans in place.

What if I made my booking through a travel agent, how do I get help?

Please contact your travel agent directly, as we will need to liaise with them about your booking.

Self-Isolation in RVs

The New Zealand Government has released the following rules on self-isolation: https://www.tia.org.nz/news-and-updates/industry-news/novel-coronavirus/#SelfIsolation

We are yet to receive official advice from the Australian Government regarding self-isolation.

We recommend that guests keep up to date with updates from health and travel authorities, and do their research in regards to campgrounds/caravans parks, and their individual isolation rules.
