Cairns may not always be the first thing that comes to mind people travel in Australia but, the thing is, they might just be lacking some important information. Did you know that Cairns is actually the fourth most popular destination for international tourists according to Tourism Australia? You see, the trick always lies in the research. But we’re saving you all the trouble; we’re showing you all the things you need to visit in the the city. Welcome to Cairns, everybody!
The city is considered to be the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef due to their close proximity to each other. Cairns is located in tropical North Queensland so it’s easy to understand how it climbed the tourism ladder placing after Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. Its tropical climate is one of its top draws with foreign guests growing in number in the years that pass by. The Great Barrier is the largest coral reef system in the world and is found in Coral Sea right of Queensland’s fringes. It can be seen from outer spaces as the world’s biggest single structure made by living organisms.
Cairns also houses the Wet Tropics of Queensland which are a World Heritage listed site. In it are a number of tropical rainforests and national parks including Daintree National Park and Kuranda National Park. Due to its location, the city is also blessed with a number of stunning coastlines and beaches including Machans Beach, Trinity Beach, Palm Cove and Ellis Beach. Plus you can even get in touch with the Australian Aboriginal roots in Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park. Want something more urban? Head on to Cairns Esplanade.
It’s easy to fall in love with the city and when you do, you’ll fall hard and fast. Cairns may not be among the favourites locally but that only means more of the unspoilt beauty is waiting for you!
