Northern Territory | Adelaide to Uluru Road Trip Itinerary

From the underground mining city of Coober Pedy to the famous Uluru, discover the best of central south Australia between Adelaide and Alice Springs.

Day 1: Adelaide City 

Pick up your Apollo camper at our Adelaide Apollo Branch and spend your afternoon engaging with the city. For an epic spot to spend golden hour, head out 40 minutes to Mount Barker!

Day 2: Adelaide to Port Augusta

Distance: 309kms

Travel time: 3 hours 25 minutes

It's time to kick off the Adelaide to Alice Springs road trip. Your first destination, just over 3 hours away, is Port Augusta, an ex-seaport town.

Day 3: Port Augusta to Coober Pedy

Distance: 540kms

Travel time: 5 hours 20 minutes

About five and a half hours on the road today with an epic destination. Coober Pedy is the opal capital of the world and if that isn't enough to spark your interest, how about the fact that many of Coober Pedy's residents actually live underground?

Day 4: Coober Pedy

Today is yours to uncover the delights of Coober Pedy. Spend your day visiting the Kanku-Breakaways Conservation Park, the Anna Creek Painted Hills, the Unions Opal Mine and Museum or even get a round in at the Coober Pedy Opal Fields golf course!

Day 5: Coober Pedy to Marla

Distance: 235kms

Travel time: 2 hours 30 minutes

Head further into the centre and be amazed by the rugged Australian landscape. Arrive at Marla after 2.5 hours on the road, a great spot to rest and recover as you itch closer to the Northern Territory!

Day 6: Marla to Uluru

Distance: 521kms

Travel time: 5 hours 15 minutes

Try and contain your excitement today as you enter the Northern Territory and head ever closer to Uluru. Over 5 hours on the road means tonight you'll be able to experience the magic of Uluru at sunset. 

 

Day 7: Uluru

Rise before the sun to experience sunrise over Uluru before spending the day exploring the area. We recommend walking around Uluru, exploring the Field of Light art installation or visiting Kata Tjuta, a 20 minute drive west of Uluru.

Day 8: Uluru to Alice Springs

Distance: 468kms

Travel time: 4 hour 45 minutes

Wave goodbye to Uluru and continue your journey towards Alice Springs. Be sure to leave early because there is a LOT to see on this journey. We recommend extending your trip by a day and stopping in at Glen Helen Gorge, Ellery Creek Big Hole and Simpsons Gap.

Day 9: Alice Springs 

Spend your final day on your Adelaide to Alice Springs road trip exploring Alice Springs before dropping off your Apollo camper at our Alice Springs Apollo Branch and preparing to sort through the thousands of photos and memories from your trip!
