Day 1: Perth to Margaret River

Depart Perth and travel through the coastal towns of Mandurah, Bunbury and Busselton. Be sure to take the 1.8 kilometre walk or train ride over the Indian Ocean on the longest timber-piled jetty in the southern hemisphere. Visit the 8 metre deep Underwater Observatory and discover awe inspiring vividly coloured tropical and sub-tropical corals, sponges, fish and invertebrates. Then drive on to the world renowned Margaret River wine region.

Day 2: Margaret River

Visit the Margaret River mouth and kayak on the scenic Margaret River. Sample award winning wines, browse art galleries, tour a spectacular underground cave or see some of the world’s largest wave surfing beaches. Many tours options available in Margaret River.

Day 3: Margaret River to Albany

Travel south through the Karri Forrest country around Pemberton and Manjimup, boasting some of the world’s tallest trees. Head further south and be sure to visit the Tree Top Walk in Valley of the Giants, Walpole and travel through scenic Denmark before arriving in Albany.

Day 4: Albany to Hyden

Visit Albany’s Whale World, see The Gap and Natural Bridge and enjoy the view of Princess Royal Harbour from Mount Melville. Drive north through the Stirling Ranges, then the Wheatbelt towns of Cranbrook and Katanning to Wagin, centre of the famous Australian Merino sheep stud industry. Visit Wagin’s Historical Pioneer Village. Take your photo alongside the Giant Ram. Drive 80 kilometres to Cambinata Yabbies in Kukerin.

Day 5: Hyden (Wave Rock)

Wave Rock became internationally famous through a Kodak New York World Fair Colour Photograph Competition in 1964. It is a 15 metre high, 110 metre long granite cliff. Scientists believe it has taken more than 2.7 billion years of weather, water and chemical erosion to create. Pop into the Wildflower Shoppe at the rock, then call into The Lace Place, Toy Soldiers Exhibit and Wildlife Park. After lunch, drive the short distance to Mulka’s Cave with its ancient Aboriginal hand stencil art. Enjoy floating in the salt water pool only 2km from the rock where you can float as you would in the dead sea!

Day 6: Hyden to Perth

Head back to Perth and drive through quaint Wheatbelt towns. Slight detour along the Tin Horse Highway in Kulin, 15kms of bright open-air gallery. See the eclectic equine art of tin horses crafted by local farmers. Then stop-over in Corrigin and historic York, first inland town of WA, before concluding your journey in Perth.
