Trip to SW Western Australia March/April 09 On 1st March 09 we flew to Perth from Hobart to begin our holiday in South West Western Australia for six glorious weeks. We booked a Euro Tourer from Apollo for this holiday and it was the fourth time we had travelled using their vans. The Euro Tourer was very comfortable and soon became "home" to us and at the end of the trip we felt as though we didn't want to give it back. The inside design was very convenient with lots of cupboards, shower and toilet, crockery, cutlery and all the cooking utensils we could possibly need plus very clean, good-quality doonas and linen. My husband drove initially as I was quite terrified of the six gears and the seven metre length of the vehicle. We have an automatic car at home but after driving the campervan on the open road I soon was able to drive it quite easily, although with white knuckles and a thumping heart for awhile and even looked forward to "my turn" at the wheel. While travelling around we had a number of people ask us if they could look inside the van and we were happy to oblige. We felt quite proud to be able to show them such a lovely vehicle. The Apollo staff members are always friendly and helpful both in person and on the phone. We very much look forward to our next trip with an Apollo vehicle.

Dear Apollo Cars, Last September we have hired a Toyota Hitop 2/3 Berth camper for 10 days, started in Tullamarine, Melbourne. It was great to have lots of freedom in our holiday! We went everywhere with the camper. The man behind the desk gave us a small plastic book with a motorhome aussiecard from toptourist witch give us some discount of the campingprices. Then we had an explaination on TV, how the camper works and what we have to do in case of damages or for help on the road when the camper stops. I’m happy we didn’t need al this in practice. The man behind the desk also made a great joke when he told us to go on the race circuit in Melbourne what we haven’t done off course! After the paperwork and lots of information, we went outside the building and we inspected the camper with someone on damages, scratches etc. but the car was in perfect condition! When we left the parking place in Tullamarine we really have to realise to drive left! But after 10 minutes it was going fine. It was very windy and you could feel that on the camper too. Also we were surprised that in Australia, bikers may go on the highway! Fantastic, In Europe you never see it because it’s now allowed there. We drove this camper with storm, healstones, rain, cold and sun to the most beautiful places around Melbourne, Mornington peninsula, Philip Island, The great ocean road, to Healsville and back to Melbourne- Tullamarine. I made lots of photos during this tour. Next time when we come back to Australia, we sure hire a camper again by Apollo because the service and cars are perfect. Finally when we give the camper back to Apollo (cry cry!), Apollo cars give us a nice present to take home as a memory on our wonderful tour with the camper of Apollo! We thank you for everything and say like all Aussies do, G’day mates and see you next time!

An amazing 5 months in Australia We spent an amazing 5 months in Australia this year (2008). We left the Netherlands at the end of April and returned home at the beginning of October. After a week with friends in Perth we picked up our Apollo 4WD Adventure Camper and set out on a trip which ended in Melbourne where we spent another week with friends. Posted: 24th Nov 2008 |

A trip to Broome In july and August we went to Darwin for a visit to our son and daughter in law, they were expecting their first baby august 9th.We planed a trip to Broome and intended to be back around august 5th, but a visit to the midwife changed our plans completely.
She anounced the baby could be born july 30th. Greetings

Centralian Tour 2008 We started in Alice Springs and spent ten days sight seeing in July 2008. The highlights of the trip were Kings Canyon walk, climbing Uluru and the Valley of the Winds walk at Kuta Tjuta. The days were warm with high blue skies, some nights were cool but we were very comfortable in our Apollo Cheapa Campa.

A trip to the South Island of New Zealand I would love to tell everyone about our two week trip to the South Island of New Zealand in March 2007. We had a fantastic time with warm weather and the most spectacular scenery imaginable. The beauty of travelling in the Apollo 2 Berth S/T campervan was the independence we had to go wherever and whenever we liked and all the free camping opportunities we could take advantage of. We started in Christchurch and crossed over to Mt. Cook which we saw in brilliant sunshine! We then drove down the east coast to Invercargill, up to Milford sound and across to Queenstown. We then headed over some amazing mountain roads to the west coast and the beautiful rugged coastline. From there, we travelled across the top to Marlborough wine country and sipped on the lovely Sauvignon Blancs all the way back down to our last night near Hanmer Springs. A must see and do, especially the hot spa waters in the open air under magnificent mountain scenery. We were very sad to have to return the campervan back to the Apollo branch at Christchurch . We will definitely return to do the North Island for our next holiday and have recommended Apollo to our friends who are doing the same holiday at the start of 2008.

Our Trip through Western Australia ? Our trip covered 6600 kilometres in about 3 weeks, starting from Perth and heading out to Kalbarri National Park , then further on the North West Costal Highway to Tom Price and Port Hedland. We continued south again to Dampier, Exmouth, Coral Bay and Geraldton. We turned off at Mt Magnet and traveled through the ?wheat-belt? to York and back to Perth. Our Apollo Cheapa Campa was for 2 adults (and maybe a small child). We liked that form of traveling because you always had food, cool drinks and other things you needed with you in the car. There was no trouble with the campervan and we found at lot of lovely camping grounds during the trip. It was a very relaxing holiday. You could drive where you liked and for as long as you wanted. From our home in Denmark we made a list of ?highlights? we wanted to see and during the trip we managed to see a lot of them. These included Lake Tetris near Cervantes, the Pinnacles and Kalbarri National Park.

Our travels with Danny Boy?
We intended to do all of the North Island but only managed to do half! We'll have to come back and do the other half and the South island another time (plans are being made). How people do both islands in 14 days is beyond us. We had Danny for 27 days in March and travelled a whopping 2540 kilometres (an average of 94.07 kilometres per day). These figures may be of interest to you: Fuel cost NZ$ 213.21 (plus $80 Diesel Tax)
Litres per 100 km: 16.3 I think I'll be looking at getting a diesel 4wd next time. Attached is a photo of "Danny" (left) and his brother (right), who we came across one day. After our first Apollo tour (for our honeymoon 6 years ago), we are now organizing our fourth trip. After visiting the east, south and in 2006 the west, we will do a trip from Darwin to Sydney in the near future. Last year we had a great time exploring the west coast. For us, the west coast was nicer and there was more to see then the east coast. We always use a 2 Berth Hitop and for 2 people it is perfect. During our last trip from Perth to the north we had a good time - seeing the Pinnacles, swimming with dolphins and exploring the gold fields. 4WD Adventure?
I had an adventure on the 400 kilometre gravel, bitumen and water road through the ?desert' to Charters Towers . I was wondering if the car could make it through. Thanks to a passing truck driver I dared to go through. The tyres of the truck went half under water and he was waiting for me to cross. It went very well. But actually he was waiting because there was a second crossing and it was VERY deep. The truck tyres went under. In my courage, I drove on and made a mistake by getting in the water in second gear. The car got into the water and started to slow down. The hood of the car was almost going under. But worse, the RPM was dropping under 1500 and I didn't want to switch gear. I gave a little more gas and the car SLOWLY starting moving out of the water. What an adventure! Thanks again to the truck driver for waiting. I had a fantastic three weeks holiday in Australia and we will probably meet again.

Western Australia ?
We started in Perth , went to Rottnest Island and than started driving north via the inland route up to Karratha. We drove back to Perth along the beautiful coastline. We visited all the most important national parks as Karijini, Kalbarri, Millstream, Carnarvon, Shark Bay , Francois Perron and the Pinnacles. One day in Karijini we met a nice couple from Switzerland and when we returned to the car park, it seemed that they were traveling with a twin Apollo campervan and they enjoyed it as well. We loved Western Australia , especially the great scenery and wonderful animals (we loved the galahs on the campground in Tom Price). It was our fifth time to Australia and the second time we rented an Apollo campervan. In 2005 we drove with a Hitop for five weeks through Queensland . We still have to see so many things in Australia , so it will not be the last time we are Down Under. Thank you Apollo and thanks for the discount offer on our next rental.

Hitop Holiday?
The Hitop van is small, compared to the big yarri trees, but comfortable enough for two people. We rented bikes for one day and would suggest that one could hire a Hitop with a rack and two bikes. There are so many spots where it would be nice to make a bicycle tour on the way. We will use Apollo when we travel to Australia again.

Melbourne was the starting point for our Australian holiday in the first quarter of 2007. We rented an Apollo Cheapa Campa and started our tour going west to Adelaide , Coober Pedy and then back to Kangaroo Island . We then travelled via the Great Ocean Road to Queenscliff (south of Melbourne ). We travelled with the ferry to Sorrento and then to Dromana, Healesville, Phillip Island, Wilson's promontory, Raymond Island, Mallacoota, Bateman's Bay, Narrabeen (just north of Sydney) and then back to Melbourne via Canberra. a holiday in New Zealand We have fancied a holiday in New Zealand for a long time, but each time we gave it serious consideration, something turned up that made it impossible for that year. But 2007 gave us the perfect excuse to commit to a holiday to remember. Our trip was to be a six stop-over around the world, with a 26-day holiday in New Zealand with a motorhome, travelling the North and South Islands . We basically planned the itinerary ourselves using the Internet search facilities to itemise those sights that we felt were ?must see's?. During our searching we contacted Apollo Motorhome Holidays as they seemed to offer a good service using fairly new vehicles. Eventually we put ourselves in the hands of Worldchoice Travel Agents who arranged nearly everything for us at a price that was comparable with the Internet, yet gave us the security we required for such a long trip. They booked everything for us, including the Apollo motorhome and all hotels in the other countries we visited. The obvious highlight of the holiday was to be New Zealand.
Our 2 Berth S/T campervan gave us a real advantage over a car in so much as we travelled just a few feet higher, which enabled us to appreciate sights that otherwise would have been missed, unless we had travelled by coach. But with a coach tour, we would have been tied to a general itinerary that would have removed the freedom we had to vary the trip from time to time to get what we wanted from it.

G´day from Austria! I was very glad to travel through Australia in March 2007! One of my first impressions of Western Australia was collecting the Apollo Hitop campervan in Perth on a Saturday. A very nice lady explained the car's facilities. I followed the Western Australia coast southwards and travelled across the Nullarbor to South Australia , Victoria , New South Wales and finished in Brisbane . The campervan was in very good condition (it only used 10.5L per 100km) and was a perfect car for driving alone or as a couple. Because of its short length, the car was easy to handle even in the big towns. Holidays in the Australian autumn was a wonderful and unforgettable adventure - 9000 km, 2805 photographs and 12 hours of video footage later I had to leave. I will be coming back to Australia (hopefully soon) to visit more of Queensland and the Northern Territory . Apollo and the German company "Camperbörse" will be my first choice. My family have rented Apollo campervans on two occasions in Perth in 2005 and 2006. On both occasions, Apollo provided us with very clean and well stocked campervans combined with friendly service. Happy Holiday... We have just returned from our 7 week holiday in Australia and New Zealand. We started in Cairns with an Apollo Toyota Camry rental car and visited some lovely places like Cardwell, Bowen, Airlie Bach, Childers, Rainbow Beach and Surfers Paradise. We then flew over to New Zealand. We hired a 2 Berth S/T campervan from the Apollo branch in Auckland and headed north to the very tip of the island at Cape Reinga. It had the most beautiful landscape and stunning beaches. After that we travelled back to Australia. We got 4WD Adventure Camper from Apollo in Broome and explored the Australian Outback. We visited many places off the beaten track, including Onslow, Tom Price, Karijini National Park, Newman, Leinster, Sandstone and Kalgoorlie. This was the third time we have experienced an absolutely wonderful holiday in Australia and NZ - thanks Apollo!

Aussie Vacation... We had a great vacation in Australia. We drove 3500km with the Toyota Camry from Cairns to Brisbane, 3000km with the 2/3 Berth Hitop Camper from Sydney to Adelaide and 2000km with the 4WD Adventure Camper in the Northern Territory. It is a great country to travel in and we met a lot of nice people.

South Australia... We thoroughly enjoyed a week of travelling around South Australia in our Apollo rental car. The Hyundai Getz was delightful to drive and fitted our two suitcases in the boot where they could not be seen when we were away from the car. Australia's Wild West... We picked up an Apollo 2 Berth Adventure Camper in Darwin and took 6 weeks to travel to Perth. On the way to Perth we visited Kakadu, Katherine, Kununarra and the Kimberleys (Gibb River Road, Fitzroy Crossing, Derby and Broome). From Broome we made our way to Marble Bar via 80 Mile Beach and then on to Mount Newman, Karijini, Nanutarra, Cape Range and Exmouth. From Exmouth we headed on the Yardi Creek track (4WD only!) to Coral Bay, Carnarvon, Shark Bay, Kalbarri, Geraldton, Lancelin and Perth plus the South West. Having a 4WD camper made all the difference to us as it allowed us to get off the beaten track to visit places in the Outback that I had last seen in the Seventies when I did geological fieldwork in Western Australia. We had a fantastic trip and the memories of which we'll cherish for many years.

Great Ocean Road... We are indeed very happy and satisfied with the tip top condition of the car (which happened to be a brand new one) provided by Apollo Car Rentals . We loved driving along the Great Ocean Road to Princetown where we enjoyed the beautiful scenic view of the ocean, the Loch Ard Gorge and Twelve Apostles. We spent a night at a Holiday Park (which we joined as members) at Wye River. The park is so big and clean surrounded by bush and wildlife such as kookabaras, magpies and wild ducks. We would love to use your services for our next visit to Australia.

I hired a Cheapa Car from Apollo Car Rentals and although I was a little afraid that the car could be too small for the three of us, it turned out to be the perfect size! We started off in Sydney and headed for Canberra on the same day. We stopped quickly at Mt Annan National Park which was absolutely stunning! Unbelievable what views on the city you have from there! We then continued on to Canberra. A lot of people keep saying that there was nothing to look at in Canberra but I strongly disagree! We loved Canberra! Everything was nice and clean, the parliament was stunning and even though I am not a big “museum-person”, I loved the National Museum in Canberra. I would say it is one of the museums that you have to visit if you get the chance to! From Canberra we made our way to Melbourne to stay with family friends. Melbourne is a great city with a lot to offer: friendly people, great nightlife, good shopping...I don’t even know where to stop! We went to the Mt Dandenong National Park and to Philip Island to see penguins and koalas close up. From Melbourne we made our way along the Great Ocean Road towards Adelaide. Yet again, the Great Ocean Road was a dream! We had really rough weather conditions when we were there, but it gave us a really nice impression of how rough and dangerous the sea can get around there. We spend so much time watching the strength of the water and the waves. Finally, after 7 days, we made it to Adelaide and had to return our car. While we were sitting on the bus stop to get back to the city from the Apollo branch in Adelaide we were regretting very strongly not having a car anymore! It is just the best way to travel. You are independent and you can go wherever the road takes you! We loved it and we would always travel by car and chose Apollo again!

Territory Touring ... We spent 6 weeks in Australia this summer and hired a 4 Berth Motorhome from Apollo for 3 weeks. We collected the motorhome in Alice Springs and then drove 5184 kilometres through the Northern Territory and Queensland. We travelled to Ayers Rock to see the sunset and sunrise and also visited Kings Canyon. We drove back to Alice Springs to do a hot air balloon ride and then headed up to Tennant Creek. From there we made our way through Camooweal, Richmond, Townsville, Bowen, Rockhampton, Maryborough and finally Brisbane. We took in Movieworld on the Gold Coast and Australia Zoo on the Sunshine Coast. We left the motorhome for a night to go across to Moreton Island (off Brisbane) where we fed the dolphins and did a whale watching cruise. We then left our campervan in Brisbane with fond memories before flying to Sydney for a week. The campervan gave us the freedom to come and go as we pleased, stopping when and where ever we liked. We also used A campsite with the ensuite toilet and showers which we felt was spoiling ourselves a little. We travelled with our two children (aged 13 and 10) and they enjoyed their big adventure across Australia. We would definitely book with Apollo again and are planning to do the west coast of Australia next time and maybe get a 4WD camper.

Young at Heart... Age (in our late 70's) is no barrier to enjoying a leisurely and educational holiday of a lifetime - thanks to Apollo's friendly staff, help and service. Family Fun... Below are some photos from our recent holiday with our Apollo 4 Berth Euro Camper. We flew from our home in Sydney down to Melbourne to pick up our motorhome. We then went down to Phillip Island for the World Superbikes motorbike racing event. The motorhome was ideal, especially with our two young boys as it has built in toilet and shower to save queuing up for a portacabin one! It also had a TV and video to keep them amused in the evening, as well as a handy fridge for keeping their milk and our beer chilled! We stayed at the Phillip Island race circuit for two nights and had two nights at Cowes (the main town on the Island) which had a beautiful beach. We also visited the local animal park and hand fed the wallabies and other animals. We look forward to travelling with Apollo again later in the year for the next big event on the island.

Our first ever camper experience was in February when we took an Apollo Hitop Campervan from Melbourne to Phillip Island for the Historic Motor Racing. The choice was made to use Apollo because of their close location to the airport and from the moment we arrived at their depot we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The trip was interrupted by an overnight stop in Melbourne so that we could revisit out usual haunts. Driving a Hitop in traffic is no worse than driving a car. On the open road it is comfortable, very fuel efficient and a delight to be able to arrive on a site and be set up in a couple of minutes. Trackside at Phillip Island with the Apollo Hitop Campervan. A stop at Dandenong to visit friends who could not believe that there was so much space in a Toyota. After four days we had never felt cramped, slept better than at home, we enjoyed just parking beside the beach and having lunch or a coffee, and a real feeling that it was our home. Next year we are doing it again only this time after the racing at Phillip Island the plan is to drive the Great Ocean Road to Adelaide and it will certainly be with Apollo. We can't wait! In august 2005 we have travelled in Australia from Adelaide to Darwin with our Apollo's Getz. We have had very nice days, and we NEED to return another time: we want to hear the silence of the night, we want to see kangaroos and koalas, we want to run away from crocodiles!! Who is your best friend (except your travel partner) while traveling the real Outback of Australia? It is definitely the Apollo 2 Berth Adventure Camper. We are talking from experience. Last year we survived the Nullarbor together and this year it accompanied us faithfully and reliably from Alice Springs via the Meerenie Loop, the Oodnadatta Track and Birdsville Track to Carnarvon Gorge in Queensland and finally to Brisbane.

Being a long way from home, in the evening we could be sure that the big Engel fridge offered the most essential items after a long day in the desert: ice cold beer and crispy white wine. We enjoyed sitting in two comfortable chairs relaxing after hundreds of kilometres on bumpy roads. When there was no barbeque or camp kitchen (always a good place to meet other crazy outback enthusiasts) we could do our cooking outside without having the smell inside. Often we were the attraction on the camp ground or parkings when suddenly the pop-top was pushed up and people saw that now the pick-up campervan was really big for two. Sometimes they came closer and asked if they could have a look inside. Then with pleasure we showed them our "little" house. It was our shelter when there were too many flies annoying us and the big bed promised a good sleep even with one of us snoring incredibly loud (space enough to move quite far away to right or left). Perth – Exmouth – Perth... We traveled from Perth to Exmouth and back. We spent a whole week in the Ningaloo Reef National park. We snorkelled every day in the Turquoise Bay and spent the nights in Tulki Beach, one of the official camp sites in this National Park. This part of Australia is definitively a place to go. The 3 Berth Euro Cruiser was ideal to enjoy this part of Australia and the service we got from the Apollo team was just great!

Our World Vacation... Since 2003 we were in search of a great vacation. There was just one condition: the kids must come with us. Finally the destination chosen was Australia and the dream became a reality in 2005. We (a family with 2 little kids) travelled in July 2005 through Australia from Melbourne to Darwin. It was a great vacation. We travelled with an Apollo 4 Berth Euro Camper. The only limit there was was the departure date. We could spend the time we wanted at each destination. With the Apollo camper we had always all our stuff with us. You don't need to pack and unpack. We would certainly recommend Apollo to anyone looking at hiring a campervan. The service was great. Our Outback Adventure... For our second trip to Australia we choose Apollo for the comfort of their offer being a 3 Berth Euro Cruiser. The first time it was one of their known competitors. We were with a couple of friends who hired the same vehicle. We drove from Darwin to Broome, with stops at Katherine, Kununurra and Fitzroy Crossing amongst others. The Euro Cruiser was perfect for a couple in their late fifties and was very easy to drive. The welcome at their Darwin office was great. The Euro Cruiser was perfect for visiting the Northern Territory and Western Australia. The equipment inside the vehicle was what one can expect to have great holidays. So we are already planning a third trip in 2006 and with our double experience, we will go again with Apollo.

Adventure of a Lifetime... Travelling with an Apollo 4WD campervan through Queensland is like a never ending dream. The freedom you have to choose every destination you like, the inviting and always changing horizons and campsites, is once-in-a-lifetime experience. However, take some time to prepare your trip thoroughly. The most wonderful campsites, some of them owned by the Queensland National Parks, are only open during school holidays and have just a few places available. Carnarvon National Park, situated at the mouth of the gorge and shaded by numerous trees, is such an example and offers a real bush experience. Listening to the shrieking sounds of sugar gliders and bush thick-knees at night or just watching the colourful rainbow parrots tasting the sweet nectar from the gumtree flowers in the early morning; we just had a feeling of being in the Garden of Eden. We now know a little bit about your friendly neighbours such as wallaroos in Girraween National Park, brush tail wallabies in Marreeba or cool companions like a giant tree frog in the bathroom of a Daintree campsite. Finally, always remember the bush will never be your friend - it asks for respect and skill. Travelling the Daintree road in Northern Queensland (a must for 4WD drivers), is an exciting experience in the dry period, but in the wet, it will be only for the bravest and most skilled drivers. From September to November my husband and I spent an amazing honeymoon in Australia. With the Apollo Hitop Campervan we enjoyed every second of our trip up the beautiful West Coast from Perth to Darwin. Camping live was just great; We felt so free and we could go wherever we liked and stop whenever we wanted.Because we had so much fun during this time, we decided in Alice Springs to try the Adventure Camper. Looking for 'something' different, my husband and I decided to holiday in Australia. Being in the UK obviously made things difficult when it came to looking for reputable campervan hire companies. Our 'Big' Journey... We recently travelled through North Queensland with an Apollo 4 Berth motorhome. We really liked the independence that the motorhome offered - we could spend as much or as little time as we wanted at each destination. We knew that Australia was home to a lot of "big things" but we didn't expect to come across so many on our trip! Travelling with 'Pollo'... Our last holidays in Australia were fantastic and renting the Apollo 4WD Adventure Camper was a great part of this success! We could sleep down by the beach, in the middle of the kangaroos or the cockatoos. We spent 17 days with ‘Pollo' as we named it. He was a real friend that we could trust everyday and in every situation. From Sydney to Adelaide via the Royal National Park, Blue Mountains National Park, Camberra, Mt Kosciusko National Park, Melbourne, the Great Ocean Road and Coorong NP - we were living in a dream!
